Description

For use within the Cisco Networking Academy Program Fundamentals of UNIX course (version 2.X), sponsored by Sun® Microsystems. Hands-on UNIX exercises will be taught using the Solaris Operating Environment.

The Fundamentals of UNIX Companion Guide, Second Edition is a convenient, portable desk reference that complements the online course (version 2.X) and provides the student with the knowledge and understanding of UNIX® operating system commands, as well as basic Sun Microsystems Solaris operating environment commands, with an introduction to the Common Desktop Environment (CDE). This includes the Standard Desktop Tools, Text Editor, printing and mail. Students will also learn fundamental command-line features of the Solaris environment including file system navigation, file permissions, the vi text editor, command shells and basic network use.

Students who complete this course will have a strong foundation for moving on to more advanced courses in UNIX system administration and can begin to prepare for the CompTIA Linux+ certification exam. The companion guide also includes a CD-ROM which will feature interactive media activities such as e-Labs and practice questions in a customizable test engine to complement the Companion Guide. The second edition focuses on the Solaris and Linux operating environment.
