For use within the Cisco Networking Academy Program, IT Essentials II, Network Operating Systems, sponsored by Hewlitt-Packard®. The new course allows the Networking Academies to introduce students to information technology and data communications as well as can be used a precursor to the Networking Academy's CCNA curricula. The Network Operating Systems course is an introduction to networking as well as an intensive introduction to multi-user, multi-tasking, networking operating systems. Characteristics of the Linux, Windows 2000, NT, and XP network operating systems will be discussed. Students explore a variety of topics including installation procedures, security issues, backup procedures, and remote access.

The book and the Web-based course will provide the student with the knowledge and understanding of general IT knowledge within a network's operating system. The Companion Guide will help prepare students for CompTIA's Server+ examination that is designed to measure the competencies of a server systems specialists. This specialist provides basic installation, operation, administration and troubleshooting services. The IT Essentials II, Network Operating Systems course is designed to be an intensive introduction to server hardware, multi-user, multi-tasking operating systems and networked operating systems. Students will explore a variety of topics including: HW upgrades/configuration, installation procedures, security issues, back up procedures and remote access. Command line and graphical operating systems will be covered. Students will also attach peripherals and download and install software drivers.
